.....Reflecting the mind and synergy of a generation, chronicling history, engaging our minds and most importantly, celebrating the members of CU India Society!
CU India Society warmly invites you to the LAUNCH of its exciting new MAGAZINE - 'KHAYAAL' !
Khayaal, literally meaning 'idea' or 'thought', will be a space for expression of opinion, debate and networking, creating quality interaction and strengthening the ties...... between the members of IndiaSoc.
The Launch of this magazine will be marked by the first of a series of Graduate/Post Doctoral Level talks planned by IndiaSoc.
Our inaugaral speaker will be DR. MATTHEW PRITCHARD, who will be speaking on TAGORE AND RABINDRASANGIT.
Matthew Pritchard is a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at the Music Faculty, and a College Research Associate at Jesus College. Matthew's research interests centre on the cultural history and philosophy of music theory and aesthetics in the nineteenth and early twentieth century.
During 2009-10, Matthew undertook a course of study at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal, in Rabindrasangit, the songs of Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941). In the field of Bengali music he is interested in how a culture of art song which shares many features with Western classical music (such as fixed notation and compositional authority) came to be defined through theoretical debate at the turn of the nineteenth century, and how it is now being transformed at the beginning of the twenty-first.
